The Ocean Breeze It is a cool morning as I watch the clouds flow slowly overhead. I hear the bristle of the grass that has grown tall over the sandy dunes. Year after year the waves pound the shore as life reproduces life, a continual cycle dependent upon only nature. Mankind has no authority here. Nature is free and birds skitter as the wave’s crash and push the foam to the shoreline. They look for food in the shoreline. A little clam or some other type of marine life. The sun is contemplating the day, and we greet eachother in the distance. Wood has washed ashore and dolphins jump out in the deep. The afternoon stands beside a waterfall, as I trek up this trail. Seeking to see trees in the fall of the year. Yellow and orange and red decorates this walk as I enjoy seeing leaves fall gentle beside me. A squirrel climbs a tree with that little scratchy sound their feet do make. It humors me to see them jump from branch to branch, as a woodpecker stares intensely before returning to the work at hand. This island is my own and I have developed its clean and organized appearance. Plants abound and I enjoy my solitude. Seeking to find only what will be revealed today. Snow falls in the winter, and I take my dog for a walk along the coastal waters, we have become very good friends as she never judges me. Always open to acceptance and runs with such precision as she catches the Frisbee in the air! It is a crazy thing to do on such a cold day, but I have become accustomed to the cold weather. Today a starfish washed ashore, and I did not hesitate to throw it as far as I could into the deep blue. I hope his landing brings him better fortune. The splash seems hopeful enough. In my home, I sit with my cats and dogs. I am an animal lover in this wooden cabin. I have done well to keep open minded about life as I have only books to read. They fill my world with insight and understanding. The ship went down years ago with all my possessions. I realized that protecting my pets was my first priority, and I have never regretted that choice. The island people were kind and helped me to find my place in this new reality. It is a world lived by honor and simplicity. I take care of the crops and share in the smoke rituals. Life is sweet! As sweet, as the ocean breeze…
