“SEXUAL FREEDOM”?

A learned colleague of mine has often made the observation that if we lived in a society wherein sex was a ‘matter-of-fact” way of life, we would be far better for it.  His contention is; if sex were taught to young children as a natural and fun-filled way of life, we would be a far less troubled society in many aspects.  Although I too agree that sex in and of itself, is a wonderful experience whether it is being enjoyed by a couple, a group or solo masturbation.  However, I’m wondering that if after generations of “Christians” teaching that sex between two persons was only permissible between a husband and wife, if society (as a whole) would be able to cope with total freedom of sexual expression?  If everyone in our country were sane, sensible, responsible people, there would be little or no problem with open sex.  Sadly, that just isn’t the case here within our shores.  Given we American’s penchant for ‘over-indulging’ in freedoms, I fear that free and open “natural” sex would soon become boring.  Take a stroll through the porn sites on the Internet today, and you will find every imaginable form of “KINK” available.  In my opinion, sex is still a very personal expression of love between two consenting adults.  Recreational sex diminishes the act to simply…me, using your body to get off with.

Were it not for sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies running rampant with the onset of open sex, I would be all for it.  If all the years of ignorant people teaching their offspring that sex is “filthy”, “dirty”, and “shameful” could be wiped away, and if children hadn’t been told horror stories about how you would go blind if you “played-with-yourself” or that you would go “insane” if you masturbated, there might be some hope.  But, as long as “Christians” continue to teach from their “Holy Book” that God approves of killing homosexuals, but condones a father getting his daughters pregnant… a rational and socially acceptable ‘sexual-freedom’ in today’s society, is unlikely to occur.

If we could make prostitution legal, and I mean both female and male services, we could eliminate a great deal of sexual frustration among the ranks.  It would make much more sense to me to have a young son or daughter who was becoming sexually active, to be able to visit a controlled, carefully screened and staffed sex house, and be taught the beauty of sex by trained and caring professionals, then to get laid by some horny peer whose sole intent is to get “off’, unwanted pregnancies, as well as STD’s, would be cut dramatically.  This of course is the musings of an optimist echoing the musings of his colleague aforementioned.  An ideal world and reality are eons apart, alas.  We shall continue to carry in our hearts that “Hope springs eternal” and perhaps one day we will see the maturing of sexual attitudes among humans.  You think?
