Masturbation, Jesus, and Ritualism

Leviticus 15

I think the most important part of this entire chapter would be at Leviticus 15: 16 – 18.  A subject that is rarely heard of in church is masturbation.  From reading this chapter one realizes that you are ritually unclean.  Are you physically unclean?  Are you humanly unclean?  Are you mentally unclean?  Are you spiritually unclean?  From what I understand at this reading is only, you are ritually unclean.  And what is ritualism?  My Winston dictionary defines it as such: “one who believes in or is devoted to, the formal side of religious worship or ceremony.”

Being ritually clean has everything to do with religious service.  Yet who in our day and age does not run into someone who is “not” ritually unclean?  Considering the millions of people on this planet, and the thousands of people we meet per year, not to mention the hundreds of people we interact with on a daily basis.  We have no knowledge of when a woman is on her period, or if a man has discharged his semen.  At verse 18: “after sexual intercourse both the man and the woman must take a bath, and they will remain unclean until evening.”  I point out now that it does not say ritually unclean.  It does not even say that the man and the woman are married.  It only informs us that when a man and a woman have sex they should take a bath afterwards.

Everyone decides to interpret the Bible to their own favor.  Controlling people with guilt over their sexual behavior is just certain people’s ways of trying to control others.  I believe in this day and age when a man is committed to a woman, he will do everything responsible that he can for her, I am sure she will do the same for him.  It says the only time a woman is ritually unclean to have sex with, is during her period.  In all the passages of the New Testament, there is “no statements” concerning what sexual practices “are approved” in God’s site.  In all four Gospels, Jesus does not even address sexual matters.

You would think something that causes so many people jealousy, envy, and stricter religious laws, would be addressed by Christ. Jesus Christ is not worried about sexual problems; he is worried about the state of our mind.  Were we kind to the sinner, did we knowingly reassure those who are young?  Does the older generation practice a sexual morality~ of genuine love.  Homosexuals, heterosexuals, and celibacy all have a place in our society.  It is rape, child molestation, and cruel malicious sexual practices that are immoral.  We must be able to determine what is permissible down here, so that it will be permissible up there in heaven.
