IN days gone by

We find ourselves in the future not remembering all the days of before. Why is it we can not have a picture perfect memory of past events? Just think to smell the smell of fresh baked bread whenever you wanted, or to feel the skin of someone you knew, or to close your eyes and see with perfect clarity everything that happened on a perfect day! It would be nice to do these things as we do dreams, it would be nice to control our dreams and stop them when they are bad, and it would be nice to know we are not going to forget things as we get older.

In life, we are not always blessed with a perfect memory. Our thoughts get misconstrued by drink, or drugs, or worse abuse… Sadly it seems people who are exposed to torture and erratic behavior can not shake the flashbacks of the trauma! They jump from certain situations as if they saw evil coming back. The ingrained repetitive destruction of their psyche takes years to repair` that is if they stay alive long enough to feel safe in their own skin again. One must not focus on the past too much. What is done is done, and keeping it fresh in mind causes much malady today.

If we are wise, we will put our thoughts on pleasant experiences and joyful occasions! Why “common sense” dictates this for peace of mind. I would rather sing a song today about how silly I am than repeat memorabilia about what happened that hurt me~ on a daily bases. To be sure, there is a time and a place to talk about the abuses in our life. Furthermore, in that type of sharing one can realize they are not defective and that the treatment done to them was unjust. However, if “one” does not fill their mind with new activities of art and music, they will continue to relive the hell.

There is a way out of torture, there is a way out of abuse, and there is a way out of nightmares. It begins by changing habits concerning what we watch, do, and think. If we fall into hatred, revenge, or fear, we will be trapped, yet if we talk to our friends, help people we know are in need, and allow ourselves to cry, our soul will heal. After all the terrible things I have witnessed, I am grateful memory does not make itself clairvoyant even though others pleasantries of thought would be nice. I would rather touch and love the person I am with, than hold onto thoughts and longings that cannot be replaced.
